Gay pride events mixed with several acts of violence

In addition to the festive events that have occurred throughout pride month across the country were several acts of anti-gay violence and possible vandalism.

* The New York Daily News reported today that a man was attacked around 4 a.m. Saturday by at least three men who called him anti-gay epithets. Boston resident Joseph Holladay, 36, was visiting a friend on the Upper East Side when he was pistol whipped and robbed by three men. He is currently healing at the New York Presbyterian Hospital.

According to the Village Voice, Holladay had stepped outside his friend’s apartment to smoke a cigarette when he was surrounded by five or six men. Residents of the apartment heard and saw the incident occur, reporting to authorities that they saw five or six white men “with crewcuts, wearing wife-beaters” smoking pot outside the building before the attack occurred.

* San Francisco’s large Pink Triangle on the city’s Twin Peaks was burned after what investigators say may be an act of vandalism. CBS 5 reports that a fire on the symbol was extinguished early Sunday morning, hours before the city’s annual Pride Parade was set to begin.

Mercury News also reports that police have determined the symbol was torched by road flares. The giant triangle is put on Twin Peaks every June in conjunction with Gay Pride Month.

    • I wonder how these low life, unintelligent morons (sorry-to all the other morons in the world) would act or respond if the GLBT community did what they are doing. Since we aren’t allowed at their parades or almost all their festivities. How would they respond to possibe acts of violence against them? Just remember two wrongs DO NOT make a right (2 rights make a u-turn though).

    • It’s sad that I’m barely even surprised by this. Torch a Church and there’s a public outcry. Beat up a “god-fearing” man and the press are screaming for blood. Smack around the odd gay and torch a symbol important to the gay community and all you get is a few piddly little articles.

The only question in my mind is why there is a need for any debate about the expansion of hate-crime legislation. There’s obviously a need for it, so the only reason I can conceive for it not being in place already is that there simply isn’t the desire for it.

    • The public and the media shouldn’t have to be educated about gay issues and gay people but very sadly they still do need to be educated.

Human beings are human beings, all hurt the same.

    • Yet, none of these are as bad as what the Ft. Worth police did. And they will obviously get away with it scot-free.

    • Who would have road flares?
If this had happened at a synogogue or a black church, it would’ve been a “hate crime” in the eyes of the law. For gay symbols, it’s merely “vandalism.”

    • Does make you wonder…if gays allowed a certain level of provocation from meatheads in a parking lot, then proceeded to administer a righteous beatdown, would it be generate hate-crime charges? I admit I kinda like the idea of giving an idiot room to provoke me, then “speaking” to him in a language he understands. Especially if it’s five on one.

    • Living in SC I see and hear things that make me think oh well, it’s these backwoods country folk who don’t know any better or too stupid to think for themselves.

Then I read these stories about other cities and their residents that go through such horrific moments that I just want to – ARGH! It just makes me so angry that I just want to kick every hate spouting Redneck in SC in the balls and pray that I have made him sterile so that he would never spawn a child remotely close to his gene pool.

    • lev 18:22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.

23 Nor shall you mate with any animal, to defile yourself with it. Nor shall any woman stand before an animal to mate with it. It is perversion.

    • Leviticus says a lot of things that you no longer follow as the death of Christ broke the first covanent (I’m an aetheist and even I know that).

      Leviticus 19:19
Keep my statutes: do not breed any of your domestic animals with others of a different species; do not sow a field of yours with two different kinds of seed; and do not put on a garment woven with two different kinds of thread.

      19:20
“If a man has carnal relations with a female slave who has already been living with another man but has not yet been redeemed or given her freedom, they shall be punished but not put to death, because she is not free.

      19:23
When you come into the land and plant any fruit tree there, first look upon its fruit as if it were uncircumcised. For three years, while its fruit remains uncircumcised, it may not be eaten.

      19:26
Do not eat meat with the blood still in it

      And it goes on…

There is however one thing that we can draw as an overall theme from all the books of the bible that we don’t have to cherry pick. Pride is a sin; and to think that you know the will of the lord is the ultimate form of pride.

    • does America have priority ratings for rights? Since when does someones 1st amendment rights override my inalienable right to Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

    • Very inhospitable tis the real reason why sodom and gomorrah was destroyed. They were violently inhospitable persons who would destroy anyone they could even the angels of God, so they thought.
